Rock crawling setups have a high powered drag brake, that when being used, applies power to the motor. The motor is not moving, the ESC is not moving but energy is being used to hold the motor in place to provide hill holding drag brake power.
The higher the drag brake setting, the more heat will be generated holding still. This is normal and something to keep in mind if you park your crawler for extended periods of time using the higher range of the drag brake settings.
The exact temps will vary depending on the conditions and settings but generally speaking several minutes of holding still has not been an issue for users.
