Builders often use a device commonly called a "Servo Tester" to operate their servo during a build setup.
These same Servo Tester devices are also used to operate an ESC. There are some extra steps to take when you use a Servo Tester to control your ESC. If not done, damage to the tester and the ESC are very likely to happen.
The ESC's input harness (Receiver plug) must have the "red" wire removed from the plug end.
This will prevent the ESC's internal BEC from trying to power the servo testers power output and vise versa. As back feeding power to something that outputs power is very bad and may damage both the Servo Tester, and the ESC.
If you ever have questions you should always double check the output of the Power and Ground with a multimeter before "just plugging things together".
